Fifth Disease
Emma has had very red cheeks for about a week now. They first colored up when we finally had a warm break in the winter weather, and I thought, “maybe she got a little sun.” I got concerned last night b/c they were still there. No fever, no complaining, just red cheeks. She had been a little stuffy and sneezy these past couple of days so I had been giving her an allergy pill to ease her nose problems. Nick suggested that I call the phone nurse that comes with our health plan, 5 calls per year, to see if they could shed some light on the subject. I, of course, had already combed the Internets b/c I was sure it was a sign that my perfectly healthy daughter was going to have some horrible childhood illness that I was neglecting to recognize. Turns out after a 20 minute phone call with Sue we mostly, with very high probability- and I swear I will still call her doctor…. diagnosed her with Fifth Disease. Here is a good link with real info. http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/fifth.html
No cure, no treatment. Which is cool, b/c she doesn’t have any symptoms. She seems a little embarrassed by it b/c the kids in her class kept asking her why her cheeks were so red. This is why I am not posting a picture… For her privacy. All she really cared about today was going to Limited Too to use her coupon for a bogo on Webkinz. Wow…..was she excited when she saw that one of the free stuffies was a baby blue hippo that…
“OHMYGOD, I HAVE BEEN WANTING FOREEEEEEEEEEEVER!!!!” Glad I made it through that. I’ll keep you posted on her disease….the fifth one, not the Webkinz one.
